About McCormick, SC - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
McCormick, South Carolina is a town found in McCormick County. As of 2010, approximately 2,800 people called this community home, and it serves as the county seat. This town consists of 3.8 square miles of total area, all of which is land. In 1852, this community was discovered by William Burkhalter Dorn to be one of the richest gold communities in South Carolina. It was incorporated in 1882 and was one of the first villages to be incorporated in the state as a “dry” town, and liquor sales were prohibited for about 100 years.
Despite being a small town, McCormick does have several interesting things to see and do. The J.J. Dorn House is located here, and tours are available through this historical home built in 1917. Art enthusiasts may enjoy a trip to the Red Rooster Emporium or the McCormick Arts Council at the Keturah. Golf fans may enjoy playing a round at the Savannah Lakes Village Monticello Golf Club, and other outdoor recreational opportunities are available at Baker Creek State Park and Hickory Knob State Resort Park.
McCormick is found within a humid subtropical climate zone, requiring both the use of a heat pump or furnace along with central air conditioning units at various times throughout the year. Summers in McCormick tend to be quite hot and humid, and while high temperatures usually reach the 90s, the muggy air will make it feel even warmer. Without an air conditioning unit in place, McCormick residents could be in danger of suffering from heat-related illnesses.
Winters in McCormick can offer extreme weather for other reasons. High temperatures may reach the 50s or 60s during the day, but after the sun goes down, freezing conditions may set in. To stay warm, residents will invest in a heat pump or furnace, and HVAC pros in McCormick recommended having these systems serviced during the warmer autumn months to make sure that they are working properly.
